Immaculate Machine

Immaculate Machine is an band from Victoria, BC. Members are Brooke Gallupe on guitar, Kathryn Calder on keyboards, and Luke Kozlowski on drums. All three members sing lead and backing vocals. Calder is the niece of A.C. Newman, and since the release of Twin Cinema, a singer/keyboardist with The New Pornographers.

Immaculate Machine released its label debut on Mint Records in September 2005. Ones and Zeros was supported with tours in Canada, the USA, England and Europe, including a support tour for Destroyer and The New Pornographers. The album was followed in October 2006 by an EP of French translations of a selection of the songs from Ones and Zeros, which was met with puzzled enthusiasm.

Their last album Fables (Mint Records) is a series of vignettes about travelling. It was made with the help of esteemed colleagues such as producers Colin Stewart (Black Mountain, Pretty Girls Make Graves) and John Collins/Dave Carswell (New Pornographers, Tegan and Sara), violinist Owen Pallett (Final Fantasy, Arcade Fire), and back-up vocalists Alex Kapranos (Franz Ferdinand) and The Cribs. Fables was released June 2007 that included tours in North America and Europe.

Continuing their tradition of non-English non-album tracks, the single of "Won't Be Pretty" was accompanied by "Wo Xiang Tanbai" (我想坦白) a Mandarin Chinese version of the album's "Dear Confessor" with lyrics by a friend of the band. None of the members speak Chinese, and learned the words phonetically for the recording.
