Furious George, Blazin Soccer Dogs, Ball hockey inferno and more to come...

What a week to be lucky!

I started it off visiting a Community Ball Hockey League at the Roundhouse Arts and Recreation Centre. Jereme Watt filled me in on why he plays; Jason Buckle talked about being on the job as a paid athlete...and much more. I believe ball hockey is not only a nostalgic memory from our youth, but a vibrant bridge into our future. And what else are cul de sacs for?

I went from the gym to the field and I'll admit it, I was a bit star struck to interview a few members of Furious George, Canada's Ultimate World champs. These guys are working hard for the World Ultimate & Guts Championships this August 2nd to 9th at Thunderbird Stadium at UBC. I met with Brian Gisel the Director of the entire thing to get the scoop. Make sure to find out why they call it "cultimate" this August. Go Canada!

I took a trip to another field, full of volunteer coaches, proud parents and a 35-player strong soccer team...The Blazin Soccer Dogs. What a heart-swelling story this was. I first read about Abbe Gates and her daughter Sadie online when they formed their own team which welcomes everyone, especially players with special needs. Their team is taking off and when you witness how happy these kids are, you feel like a new person. They are currently looking for volunteers especially to help build a website.

I met with Jennifer Ivings. She has a degree in Outdoor Recreation and unlike my B.A. she is really using it! Jennifer took me to an early a.m. hockey camp and we talked about her starting her own women's hockey team! Did I mention she also plays soccer, softball, basketball, mountain bikes, hikes, camps, goes to school and works with children. Yeah, I know, she should really do something with her life.

There are so many incredible stories beyond the sidelines. I really appreciate the people that have taken the time to tell me a few of them. Enjoy!

PS a big thanks to Sarah Hyde and Alistair Burns, colleagues in crime.

ohhyeahh!
